My art is about the joy of being alive
and letting my inner child out to play.
I make a mess and I have fun,
then I search for the beauty in the chaos. This process of exploration is like a symphony of feelings, conducting my paint strokes and influencing my colors. My canvas, like a mirror, catches little glimpses of
my journey of transformation.
I am a Canadian artist, born in Congo Africa and raised in Laos, SouthEast Asia. I grew up travelling and made the whole world my home.
I saw art in many forms, each unique and wonderful, and learned to appreciate diverse styles. My first mentor was my mother Monique Laliberte, an amazing collage artist who created beauty and art everywhere, turning our home in Vientiane into The Champa Art Gallery.
At fifteen I studied Chinese painting with Thep Thavonsouk, world renowned artist. I fell in love with the meditative nature of the ink preparation and the dancing movements of the brush strokes. It was in our home Gallery that I sold my first Chinese painting on rice paper.
The next 20 years were filled with constant changes, moving our home from Israel, to China and back to Canada while raising our children, and working as a Montessori teacher. During those years, painting became my prayer and a connection to my spirit.
The last 10 years, living with fibromyalgia has led me on a journey that has derailed my life in many ways, but has given me a new lens through which I see the world. Everyday I find myself striving to choose joy and learning to appreciate the little moments. Art has shed light and hope on my journey of acceptance, and it is my quest to capture moments of joy with paint. I hope you can catch a little spark too.
